Donald Cerrone lost to Nate Diaz back in 2011 and yet he still hearing about it until now.
Diaz was able to beat Cerrone for the entire bout, which resulted to a unanimous decision victory back at the UFC 141 event. Cerrone considered this fight as one of the most memorable encounters in his entire career.
In a recent interview with Joe Rogan, Cerrone told the UFC commentator what he thought about the Diaz brothers.
“The Diaz brothers have the most incredible following. Almost as incredible as the Conor McGregor following. His cult is unbelievable. ‘He’ll beat your ass again.’ Well, bring his ass on because I’m ready whenever,” he said.
Cerrone, however, is focusing all his energy on his upcoming bout with Rafael dos Anjos. The event will be held in Orlando, Florida this coming December 19th at the UFC on Fox 17 event.
“I’m not making any [excuses]. He got in my head. Absolutely. That s**t don’t happen anymore. Everyone tells me, ‘Conor’s in your head. Dos Anjos is in your head.’ No the f**k they’re not. It was a super lesson. I fought out of anger. I sucked that night. That’s all there is to it. No excuses. Mother f***er beat me,” Cerrone said about Diaz beating him back in 2011.
Diaz and Cerrone’s feud started since “Cowboy” tried to shake hands during an open workout. During the pre-fight presser, Diaz had the chance to come back at Cerrone so he slapped the hat off Cerrone’s head. Aside from this, Diaz’s weight went over the weight limit which added to further insult.
During that time, Cerrone admitted that he used the anger he felt as a motivation to do great in the fight.
“I fight good, pissed off. When people piss me off, I like that. You wanna talk s**t to me? You’re just going to enrage me and piss me off. So feed my f***ing flame. Let’s go, motherf***er,” Cerrone said during the pre-fight.
A few years after the event, Cerrone had the chance to reflect about what took place. He admitted that he’s now actually fond of the brothers.
“As much as he talked, I like those guys. I really do, because there is no front on them at all. What you see is what you get. If I were to run into the Diaz brothers out in the street, we’re fucking throwing down. No question. That’s just who they are. It’s not like they put on this big persona. That’s who they are 24/7. It’s awesome, to me. I’ve got nothing but respect for both of them. I’d have a drink with them right now. I don’t have any animosity or anger or hate toward either one of them. I’d hang out with both of them. It sucks that Nick is in trouble with this whole marijuana thing,” he said.
