In a recent interview, former bantamweight MMA champ Ronda Rousey revealed that is enjoying her time away from the sport and actually considered taking an extended leave.
Rousey has only been a professional MMA fighter for about five years, but her legacy in the sport has definitely soared higher than anyone would have expected. She actually became one of the most famous women MMA fighters in the history of the sport. Her fierceness, attitude, and dominance made her so famous in the shortest amount of time, that it may have finally took a toll on her as a human being.
“MMA? Yea, they’ve been making me go non-stop. I mean, my first year I fought six times. I feel like I’ve been burning the candle at both ends for a long time. In Judo, I took a good period of time off after the Beijing Olympics and I feel like I’m bodily and mentally in a similar space where it’s just what I need right now,” Rousey said during a recent interview with MMA Fighting.
The break that Rousey was referring to was back in 2008 where she described it as one of the lowest points in her life.
During those two years, the former MMA champ spent her time smoking, drinking, partying, and even got hooked to drugs like Vicodin- a total opposite of what she was used to when she was training in Judo. However, this events eventually led her to discover MMA and steered her back to the right path.
Now that she is taking a time off after losing to Holly Holm back in November, Rousey revealed that she is actually surprised how happy she is not being inside the cage to fight.
“It’s been surprising to me how happy I’ve been being away from [fighting]. I’m being purposefully mysterious right now because I think people have taken my availability for granted, and I’ve kind of just wanted to disappear,” she revealed.
