Tony Ferguson Beat Josh Thomson by Unanimous Decision

The mixed martial arts bout between Josh Thomson and Tony Ferguson was indeed a very intriguing event to see. This is because it was like watching a rising contender go against a veteran mixed martial arts fighter. Josh Thomson was a previous Strikeforce Lightweight Champion while Tony Ferguson, on the other hand, is now a rising contender. Both fighters show excellent skills, but of course, only one of them can be the winner.

The first round of the fight started off as a very close one. Thomson did a great job countering the attacks Ferguson threw at him. Ferguson threw a lot of jabs and kicks on the body. Thomas was able to go for a swift takedown, but unfortunately, Ferguson was able to get back on his feet before Thomas could fully dominate him. Ferguson also attempted to do a quick flying knee, but he was taken down because he was caught mid-air. Towards the end of the first round, Thomson had to defend himself from a triangle choke when he went for a ground-and-pound move.

During the second round, Thomson barely got out of Ferguson’s moves to reach the third round. Ferguson always went for the finish, but Thomson somehow managed to wriggle out of his grip. On the first few seconds of the round, Herb Dean had to intercept and stand them up to restart because Ferguson grabbed the fence. Thomson, on the other hand, started to show some weakness. His legs were starting to get wobbly, and this was evident when he tried a spinning backfist. Unfortunately, the move was off target and it showed quite evidently that he was getting shaken up. As the fight continued, Ferguson went ahead and gave Thomson some hard elbows, which had Thomson bleeding profusely. The bleeding somehow created a way for Thomas to get out of Ferguson’s position. Even though Thomson was not looking good, he still managed to make it to the third round in one piece.

The last MMA round was not too good for Thomson either. Ferguson was able to land some powerful blows on his body, which caused another cut on his forehead. Evidently, Ferguson was simply too fast and too strong for Thomson. Even though Thomson tried to counter the blows and chokes, it was simply not enough. He was not able to do enough Ferguson effortlessly avoided his hits and be pinned to the ground. Ferguson even looked like he was fresh and very ready to bring the fight until the tenth round. His energy and swift moves were just the ones he needed to win the fight. At the end of it all, Ferguson deserved the unanimous decision that the judges made.

Here is the final tally of votes:

Tony Ferguson (19-3) def. Josh Thomson (20-8, 1 NC) via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Ferguson’s mixed martial arts track record had incredibly improved to an amazing 9-1 in the UFC. This is actually his sixth straight win streak. Thomson’s career, on the other hand, is in a bit of hot water. Thomson had his track record to a depressing 3rd straight loss.
